How Diabetes Can Affect Your Vision

Did you know that over 30 million people in the United States are currently diagnosed with diabetes? There is also a large portion of the population that doesn’t know that they have diabetes or prediabetes. As the number rises in our country, spreading awareness about diabetes is vital to the prevention and management of this disease. November is National Diabetes Awareness Month and we would like to take time this month to educate our community on the effect diabetes can have on your vision and ways to lower your risk for developing diabetic-related eye conditions.

Our Team’s Thanksgiving Traditions

THANKSGIVING TRADITIONS COME in all shapes and sizes. From the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to breaking the wishbone to getting together with those wacky yet lovable relatives, traditions vary from family to family, and that includes the families of our practice’s team members!

What is Ptosis?

Ptosis is a drooping or falling of the upper eyelids. Although unnoticeable most of the time, those sleepy-looking eyes or slightly saggy upper eyelids can become severe enough to impact your vision. Fortunately, this condition is treatable and can improve both your vision and appearance.

Your Diet and Your Eyes

It’s no secret that a well-balanced, nutrient-rich diet can significantly improve your life by boosting energy levels, maintaining a healthy weight, and lowering the risk of developing a variety of health conditions including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and high blood pressure. The foods you eat and the supplements you take do affect your overall health and this includes the health of your eyes!

Why Does My Child Need An Eye Exam?

The new school year is about to start, and that makes this the perfect time to schedule your child for an eye exam.

3D Movies And Our Eyes

Well the answer is different depending on what era of film you’re looking at, but the basic idea is to attempt to trick the eyes into thinking they’re not actually looking at a flat image, and it doesn’t work on everyone!

Astigmatism: It’s Simpler Than it Sounds

In the medical field, sometimes it feels like the more confusing the word is, the simpler the condition. For example, you most definitely suffered from sphenopalatine ganglioneuralgia at some point in your childhood, though your friends called it something different. Astigmatism is just like that. Despite the confusing name, it really just means your eye is not as perfectly round as it should be.

Back-To-School Eye Exams

As summer draws to a close, many of us are preparing for the new school year. As you check off school supplies and other back-to-school necessities, be sure to schedule your child’s annual vision exam. August is Children’s Eye Health and Safety Awareness month and during this time, we encourage parents and caregivers to arm themselves with the knowledge to protect their child’s vision.

Contact Lenses: More Than Meets The Eye

It’s true that they’ve only become popular in recent decades, but you might be surprised to learn that Leonardo da Vinci first sketched the concept of contact lenses way back in 1508! His version involved submerging one’s head in a glass bowl of water, so it definitely needed work, but how did we get from there to the breathable silicone hydrogel contact lenses of today?

Cosmetics and Our Eye Health

Nobody likes accidentally jabbing themselves in the eye with a mascara applicator, but that isn’t the only eye health concern when it comes to cosmetics.
